Last week, we conducted six heartwarming and interactive Humane Education Sessions at Protsahan India Foundation, New Delhi, for children in the age group of 10 to 16. Almost 200 bright and curious children learnt about ways to befriend community dogs and live in harmony with them.
In one of the sessions, the children gathered excitedly with their best friends to listen to a touching story about a child and his beloved dog. They were already aware of the struggles faced by community animals and were eager to learn ways to help. Participating with great enthusiasm in the S.A.F.E. game through a role-play activity, they learnt about keeping themselves safe amidst community dogs. The session ended with a hands-on worksheet activity, where they drew heartfelt illustrations of happy, well-cared-for animals and also wrote about their feelings on each of the pictures.
The other sessions brought deeper reflections. Through the story What Happened to the Reptiles of Paambupatti, the children learned how every being has a rightful place on Earth and how each one contributes to the well-being of the environment, which is shared by all living beings.
Class 9 and 10 students were introduced to the lives of farmed animals and engaged in thoughtful conversations about the cruelty they endure, the systems that normalize it, and the choices we can make to reduce their suffering.
We’re deeply grateful to Help Animals India for their kind support in making these sessions possible.
