STRAW India’s 2024 Recap

2024 has been a challenging yet rewarding year for all of us at STRAW India.

Animals and the natural world in India continue to face issues like neglect, exploitation, and cruelty. To make a lasting difference, we believe in the power of humane education - instilling compassion and awareness in children to inspire them to become empathetic citizens of tomorrow. STRAW India has thus focused on bringing this solution to life and bridging the gap with programs that equip young minds to care for animals and the environment, with kindness and responsibility.

With your unwavering support, we’ve been able to take meaningful steps largely through our Compassionate Classroom workshops and have sensitized 5400+ school children and college students. We have also supported ABC (Animal Birth Control) and Anti-Rabies programs for stray dogs.

STRAW India's

Reach in 2024

We are deeply grateful to our generous granters and to our many donors across India for being an essential part of our journey. Together, we’re building a kinder generation of children who will ensure a more compassionate future for animals!

Our Flagship Program

Compassionate Classroom

We believe that most acts of cruelty towards animals, stem from a lack of awareness that animals experience pain just as humans do. To address this, STRAW India has given itself a mandate, to raise awareness and to sow seeds of empathy & compassion for animals in school children and college students.

This mission is carried out through our flagship Humane Education Programs and Workshops, known as “Compassionate Classroom”. These programs aim to nurture and guide a new generation of citizens to grow up as kind, empathetic, and compassionate individuals toward animals, people, and the natural world.

Impact of our Online Web Series

Stories of Kindness

STRAW India carries out an online program called Stories of Kindness for children aged 5 to 12. Children from across India register and join these sessions to hear engaging stories that nurture empathy and compassion for animals, birds and even creatures as small as ants and spiders.

Since our programs are based on the head, heart and hands (HHH) approach, children learn through stories and discussions, enjoy fun quizzes followed by hands-on activities such as making dog shelters, bird feeders or painting water bowls for the neighborhood dogs.

We are grateful to the many parents who support their children in these creative efforts and to several school teachers and principals who encourage their students to participate, making this initiative a true community effort.

Inspired!

Inspired by our program, Hyderabad’s renowned Indic International School made a compassionate choice to rethink their festivities in October 2024. They decided to drop the idea of having animals for rides and instead set up a petting corner to help children connect with animals and learn to care for them.

This petting corner featured puppies, dogs and goats, all lovingly arranged by STRAW India in collaboration with the Breath Animal Rescue Home. The event revealed a beautiful insight: children truly enjoyed interacting with these adorable animals, fostering a sense of empathy and kindness in their young hearts.

As we step into 2025, we are filled with hope and determination to achieve our aim to double our impact by reaching out to and educating 10,000+ children and young change makers across India and to continue to support ABC (Animal Birth Control) and AR (Anti-Rabies) programs. Together, we can ensure that this is achievable.

STRAW India is dedicated to producing that ripple effect and creating this new generation of animal ambassadors across India.

And your contributions can make all that difference. If you'd like to show your support and gratitude for the work that we do, please consider donating today by clicking here.
