This session was an experience filled with energy and expression! We conducted STRAW India’s Compassionate Classroom workshop with the incredibly talented theatre group Rang Kuti, and what unfolded was nothing less than heartwarming and powerful.
The students were exceptionally expressive, observant, and thoughtful throughout the session. Their inputs during discussions reflected deep empathy and awareness. What stood out was how confidently they questioned societal norms, talked about the human-animal relationship, and even raised insightful queries about the vegan lifestyle, not just the students, but even the mentors participated actively, which made the dialogue even more enriching.
We concluded the session with a powerful activity where participants brought their learning to life through skits.
And wow! they delivered with soul and intensity.
One group performed a deeply moving act on what it would feel like if humans were bonded or chained like animals evoking empathy through reversed roles. Another portrayed how humans have placed themselves at the top of the hierarchy, controlling and exploiting animals as if superiority is a birthright. Their storytelling, expressions, and acting were so real that it left everyone in awe.
It was beautiful to see how theatre became a medium to channel compassion, question norms, and imagine a world where animals are treated with dignity.
