The morning began with the flag-hoisting ceremony, a powerful reminder of the struggles and sacrifices that won us liberty. Alongside tributes to our nation’s freedom, we spoke of another vital cause: the Five Freedoms for Animals. We reminded the students that animals, too, deserve rights as sacred and inviolable as those of humans.
To make the learning deeper and more engaging, we held an interactive quiz where children reflected on the suffering animals endure, including our own community dogs, and explored practical ways they themselves can help. Their curiosity and compassion shone through, and even the teachers joined in, appreciating the students’ thoughtful questions and active participation.
The celebration concluded with small gifts for the most interactive students but the most powerful moment of the day was when every child stood together to take a pledge to never harm animals.
Real patriotism lies not only in love for our country, but in extending compassion, dignity, and justice to every life within it.
